The World’s Top 10

2019 QS University Rankings of Life Science and Medicine

The United States accounted for 6 of world’s top 10 universities, including Harvard University (No.1), Stanford University (No.4), Johns Hopkins University (No.5), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (No.6), University of California, San Francisco (No.7) and University of California, Los Angeles (No.8). Compared to last year, the rankings of Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University remain unchanged, while MIT dropped from 4th to 6th. Stanford University moved up from 5th to 4th, University of California, San Francisco moved up from 10th to 7th and UCLA moved up from 9th to 8th.

Three universities in the UK are in the top 10, including University of Oxford (No.2), University of Cambridge (No.3) and University College London (No.10). Compared to last year, the ranking of University of Oxford was unchanged, while University of Cambridge dropped from 2nd to 3rd and University College London dropped from 8th to 10th.

Karolinska Institutet in Sweden ranked No.9.

Asia’s Top 10

2019 QS University Rankings of Life Science and Medicine

China has 22 universities on the list, with 10 in the top 300. Japan also has 22 universities on the list, with nine in the top 300. China and Japan are tied for first place in the list.

The top 10 universities in Asia includes National University of Singapore (No.26), The University of Tokyo (No.29), Seoul National University (No.35), The University of Hong Kong (No.44), Kyoto University (No.50), Beijing University (No.58), National Taiwan University (No.59), Fudan University (No.81), Osaka University (No.84), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (No.84).

North America’s Top 10

2019 QS University Rankings of Life Science and Medicine

In North America, the United States holds nine of the top 10 spots, including Harvard University (No.1), Stanford University (No.4), Johns Hopkins University(No.5), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (No.6), University of California, San Francisco (No.7), University of California, Los Angeles (No.8), Yale University (No.12), University of California, San Diego (No.13), University of California, Berkeley (No.14).

Canada took one spot, with the University of Toronto in 11th place.

Latin America’s Top 10

2019 QS University Rankings of Life Science and Medicine

In Latin America, Brazil’s performance was dazzling, taking six of the top 10 spots. They are Universidade de São Paulo (No.93), Universidade Estadual de Campinas (No.222), Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (No.265), Universidade Federal de São Paulo (No.273), Universidade Federal do Rio Grande Do Sul (No.301) and Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (No.305).

Mexico occupies one seat, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (No.154).

Argentina also occupies one seat, University of Buenos Aires (No.184).

Chile occupies two seats, including Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (No.206) and Universidad de Chile (No.208).

Oceania’s Top 10

2019 QS University Rankings of Life Science and Medicine

In the Oceania region, Australia packed into the top 10 with a total of 8 universities, including The University of Melbourne (No.21), The University of Sydney (No.23), The University of Queensland (No.33), Monash University (No.34), The University of New South Wales (No.68), University of Western Australia (No.84), The University of Adelaide (No.104), The Australian National University (No.120).

New Zealand has two universities in the Oceania top 10: University of Otago (No.94) and The University of Auckland (No.101).

Africa’s Top 10

2019 QS University Rankings of Life Science and Medicine

South Africa makes up half the Africa list. University of Cape Town (No.112), University of Witwatersrand (No.236), Stellenbosch University (No.267), University of Pretoria (No.360), University of Kwazulu-Natal (No.401-450).

Egypt occupied three seats, including Cairo University (No.240), Ain Shams University (No.401-450) and Alexandria University (No.451-500).

Uganda’s Makerere University ranked No.451-500.

Europe’s Top 10

2019 QS University Rankings of Life Science and Medicine

In the European rankings, the United Kingdom has 6 universities out of 10. Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany each have a university on the list.

Central Europe (Czech & Hungary)

The ranking of medical schools in central Europe is of high reference value to international students because of its English teaching, more open medical school admission system compared with Western Europe and North America, and highly competitive tuition fees.

2019 QS University Rankings of Life Science and Medicine

The Czech Republic has three universities on the list, and Charles University is at the top of the Central European rankings with 216 (moved up from 219 to 216 compared with last year)

Hungary has three universities on the list. Semmelweis University (308) is Hungary’s No.1 University. The other two universities are University of Debrecen (451-500) and University of Szeged (451-500).
