University of Debrecen School of Medicine has many clinical departments, covering fields including clinical biochemistry, internal medicine, surgery, bone science, medical radiology, neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, cardiology, chest medicine, dermatology, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, stomatology, and urology.
Medical education began to be introduced in English in 1987. The faculty of dentistry began to recruit international students in 2000. The faculty of pharmacy began to use English as instruction language in 2004. In 2007, all the faculties in University of Debrecen began to use English to teach courses.
Debrecen university hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Hungary, with 18 outpatient departments and over 1,800 beds. It serves more than 62,000 inpatients and 670,000 outpatients annually. It is the most representative health care institution in Hungary, including health center, heart surgery center, hemodialysis center and gamma knife and kidney transplant center. The department of obstetrics and gynecology is the official center of the world health organization.
